Frequently Asked Questions
I have a child already attending a Georges River College campus. Can they stay there if I am now in a different local intake area?
Yes, they can. There is no change required for students already enrolled and attending a Georges River College campus. Students whose residential address will be in a different Georges River College campus intake area in 2025 will have the option to enrol at that campus, as per the department’s enrolment policy.
What if I live in a local intake area for one Georges River College Campus but I want to enrol my child in a different campus or any other public high school?
Out-of-area enrolments will be considered in line with the department’s current policy. Consideration will be given to a range of factors including siblings currently attending the school, recent school intake area changes, and existing gender ratios at campuses that were previously single-sex (for students enrolling in Years 8, 9 and 10 who are designated to the Georges River College Hurstville and Georges River College Penshurst local intake areas).
What happens if I currently have a child enrolled in my previous in-area school (Georges River College or elsewhere) and I want to enrol their sibling in the same school, which is now deemed out-of-area?
Families living in an area affected by intake area changes who have a child or children already enrolled at the previous in-area school can remain at that school. They are also able to enrol other siblings, in line with the department’s enrolment policy.
How were the new intake areas developed?
The new intake areas have been developed through a consultative process with schools and communities. A number of relevant factors were considered to inform the development of the new Georges River College intake areas including enrolment trends; opportunities to align with primary school local intake areas; public transport access; the size and utilisation rate of schools; the number of students living in each proposed intake area; and the physical capacity of schools to enrol students.
Will all Georges River College Year groups be coeducational in 2025?
The transition to Georges River College, Hurstville and Penshurst campuses becoming coeducational will begin with Years 7 and 8 in 2025.
Because existing students will not be required to leave their current Georges River College campus, it is possible that the majority of students in Years 8, 9 and 10 at Georges River College Hurstville and Georges River College Penshurst will be of a single gender in 2025. However, as per the enrolment policy, all four coeducational campuses will be accepting enrolments from students residing in their intake area, regardless of their gender.
How will new and existing students be supported while campuses are changing from a single-sex to a coeducational setting?
Throughout 2024, all four campuses of Georges River College will collaboratively develop a comprehensive change management plan to ensure a smooth transition for all students enrolled at all campuses of Georges River College in 2025 and beyond.
