Kincumber High School
Kincumber High School is a coeducational, comprehensive secondary school which enjoys high community recognition for its academic, cultural, creative and performing arts, community service and sporting achievements. The school is fortunate to have a beautiful setting, a committed staff and a close knit and supportive community. Progress towards education for sustainable living is supported by rainwater tanks, a Waterwatch program, and an Aquaculture centre. Kincumber High School enables students to 'achieve and excel' in a quality setting. A sound formal education is offered within an effective and widely recognised student services framework, catering for the learning needs of all students. The school motto, 'To tomorrow', helps to maintain a focus on the purpose of schooling in laying the foundations for the world of work and lifelong learning in the 21st century. Kincumber High School is a member of the K to 12 Kincumba Learning Community, which includes our partner primary schools. These are Avoca Beach, Copacabana, Kincumber and Pretty Beach Public schools. Strong links have been forged around a very successful 6-7 transition program which provides a breadth of activities designed to build confidence and continuity of learning. These activities include:- - a Building Positive Relationships Day - Interested and Talented workshops - peer led sport activities day - targeted transition groups for students with a variety of needs - an Orientation Day and Year 7 Information Evening - an open night for Stage 3 students and parents - and a road show where staff and students visit partner primary school assemblies highlighting some of the new experiences available in a high school setting Kincumber High school enjoys wide recognition for a comprehensive extra-curricular program, with many of our students and ex-students achieving sporting success on the state, national and international stage and other students involved in state and regional ensembles and exhibitions. The school's music program provides a range of opportunities, building capabilities in both composition and performance. Many local artists and photographers support our Visual Art students. Kincumber High has also been a long time participant in Central Coast Dance Festival and has developed strong links with NAISDA Aboriginal Dance Group. There are also a range of drama opportunities available both in and outside of the school setting including performance nights and whole school plays. Our school farm is an important part of the school and the Agriculture Team is involved in parading and showing animals in a range of competitions and shows. Our Interested and Talented team provide a diversity of opportunities for success. Student leadership and student voice are pivotal in providing a safe and supportive learning environment. The school leadership team, supported by a range of mentoring programs (including Big Sister, Big Brother led by a wonderful community team of volunteers and the Premier's Sporting Challenge Team) are all important in developing shared values of respect, inclusiveness and fairness within the framework of the nine values of Public Education. The Student Support Unit provides an inclusive educational setting for hearing impaired students, students with learning disabilities and Autism. Our school is culturally enriched by the active involvement of our Aboriginal students and their parents in partnership with the Tjudibaring AECG. The school has a history of strong retention into Years 11 and 12, offering both a diversity of academic courses and a range of content endorsed, SVET and TVET opportunities to provide well supported pathways to both higher education and the world of work.
