Bossley Park High School

Bossley Park High School is a coeducational comprehensive high school (Years 7 to 12). Currently there are approximately 1500 students enrolled. Traditional values with highly attuned facilities are noteworthy aspects of our school environment. Applications for enrolment exceed those places available. Our school motto of 'focussing on excellence and success' drives our planning and evaluation processes. Our school is highly regarded both in the local and wider environment. Many students from the latter travel extensively to attend: some even privately board with families in the local area. Bossley Park High School has a Gifted and Talented program in Academic, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama and Music) and in Visual Arts, Technology, Sport and football (Soccer). All areas of speciality are taught within and outside the curriculum: football included. Many students within the football program have and continue to be invited to undertake overseas trials in anticipation to becoming football professionals. Applications are invited for entry into any or all of these streams. Individual learning programs exist for students in these streams and are most successful. The school is committed to providing quality programs for its students and staff. The recognition of individual differences, the need to challenge and extend abilities and the valuing of self-esteem in each person are fundamental principles upon which the school operates. Established in 1988 the school maintains a fresh and modern appearance. The school's surrounds and gardens are well planned and landscaped and have been recognised by local gardening authorities with awards of excellence. The school has dedicated recycling processes: solar power generation and waste water storage facilities; these are all part of the school's environmental status and role modelling within our community. A functional and practical learning environment with access to all facilities required for all facets of the curriculum is provided. Modern technologies and facilities are commonplace; the library, all computer rooms, drama rooms, state of the art dance studio, fitness centre, fully finctional and state-of-the art hospitality (stainless steel) kitchen and the human performance centres are typical of the resourcing base offered to students: these are mostly financed from school generated funds. The food laboratories are also upgraded to industry standards. Many links with local organisations and enterprises currently exist. A small physical disabilities unit is also housed within the school. The school is most successful in sport: many students are zone champions in swimming, cross country and athletics, and many students go on to representing at - State and also at National level. Many staff also have widely recognised profiles both in sport and academia, domestically and internationally. Parental decision making input is widely sought. This is essentially undertaken in formal settings. For example, our school has a vibrant and supportive parent group (Community Support Group - CSG) with representatives from the Community, Parent and Staff interest groups. Feedback to the wider community is deliberate and commonplace. The seeks to and represents in many areas of public display.
