Robert Townson High School
Robert Townson High School is a comprehensive, coeducational 7-12 high school serving the communities of Raby and St Andrews in the City of Campbelltown. We place a high value on learning and are committed to providing a safe and secure environment in which students have the means to achieve their best academically, culturally and socially. The school community supports the school's insistence on full uniform and high standards of student behaviour at all times. Within our mainstream school we have a specialist unit for students with a hearing disability. We have three classes, two teachers and many support staff that also have a hearing disability. These students are integrated into our mainstream school and form a valued part of our school community. Our whole school programs continue to promote an understanding of disabilities which are role modelled on a daily basis. Robert Townson High School has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the national Mind Matters program. This program underpins much of our student and staff welfare programs in operation across our school. A diverse curriculum incorporates traditional, general interest and vocational courses to meet the needs and abilities of students. We currently offer seven different VET frameworks plus access to many TVET course. An increasing number of our students are accessing Traineeship and Apprenticeship courses offered at our school. Over 2010 seven of our students received excellence awards for their work in VET. Our school has developed and maintains strong links with our two primary schools, Robert Townson Primary School and St Andrews Primary School. Together we continue to develop an integrated curriculum to make the transition to high school as seamless as possible. There is a strong demand for enrolment from non-local students. Extra-curricular activities include a gifted artists program, debating, public speaking, music and drama programs, sporting programs and many leadership and community programs. This year many of our students entered the state Volunteering program and have logged hours of community work. This has included three students assisting in the redevelopment of the bushfire ravished area of Victoria. Though our school is strongly committed to a range of sports programs our students have consistently achieved excellence in rugby league, football and hockey. Many of our students also develop skills in coaching, refereeing, the general teaching of sport and a healthy lifestyle. Out school is part of the government Eat It, Work It, Move Program aimed at improving the lifestyle of staff and students.
