Rutherford Technology High School

Rutherford Technology High School is located in the lower Hunter Valley, catering for approximately 1100 city and rural students. The school has a strong focus on Aboriginal Education and building strong community partnerships and to this end is part of the 'Stronger Smarter' program. The school is a leader in technology, with computer laboratories in each key learning area (KLA), currently 16 interactive whiteboards and a soundproof music recording studio. As a technology high school, we endeavour to foster lifelong learning through using computer technology integrated into teaching and learning, encouraging a problem-solving approach and valuing technology as a tool to support learning. The school offers a number of learning pathways with a strong emphasis on VET. Facilitating this, we are a platinum member of the Beacon Foundation and support a modern agricultural farm. As part of the Priority Schools Program, the school implements literacy and numeracy programs based on regular data analysis to strengthen the learning outcomes of all students. Students are encouraged to use higher order thinking skills to find multiple solutions to problems to produce quality work.
