Tomaree High School

Tomaree High School, in partnership with Tomaree Public School and the Hunter Institute of Technology (TAFE), provide the residents of the Tomaree Peninsula, in Port Stephens, with a unique educational opportunity. All three partners share the Tomaree Education Centre site. While each partner is a separate entity, they work together to enhance learning outcomes and provide opportunities for all students, Kindergarten through to adult learners. Tomaree High is a modern, well-equipped learning environment with a strong emphasis on academic achievement, work readiness and student well-being. Tomaree High students also excel in a broad range of sporting and cultural pursuits. A Positive Behaviour for Learning school, Tomaree High explicitly teaches a core set of expectations and school beliefs of Respect, Responsibility and Success. These expectations drive the school direction and guide young people to make informed choices about their learning and behaviour.  The school produces strong results in the Higher School Certificate. In 2018 eight students were recognised on the Distinguished Achievers list in seventeen subjects. The experienced teaching staff understands how to maximise student ability. Similarly, this expertise sees students excel in the creative arts where many represent at the major Star Struck production in Newcastle and at local events and, in sport, with numerous individual and team successes. The school has strong community links with outstanding partcipation in the 'RealFutures@PortStephens' program which assists students make good choices as they move from school to work and is strongly supported by local businesses and volunteer organisations. Additionally, the school has a partnership with COPSY (Caring for Our Port Stephens Youth) and has worked with this group to establish a need for additional services for young people in the area with mental health issues.
