Dungog High School

Dungog HS is a regional, comprehensive high school located within 50 kms of a regional city, Newcastle. The school provides education for students drawn from the town of Dungog, its surrounding villages and rural areas.DHS is a partner school in the Dungog and District Learning Community, ensuring continuity of education for students from kindergarten to the HSC.DHS has a history of academic, cultural and sporting achievement. The core values of DHS reflect the community it serves. The school community selected the values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best to encapsulate our expectations of student self-management and achievement. The curriculum at DHS responds to the interests and needs of our students. Traditional academic subjects are combined with creative arts and vocational courses to allow students to select a pattern that suits their goals. The co-curricular program reflects the wide range of student interests and includes activities such as choir, cattle judging, debating and sports coaching. Staff at DHS are experienced and well supported. Students with learning needs are assisted by specialist staff in mainstream classes and in a purpose-built Special Education facility. A network of staff assists students in their career choice, personal welfare and resilience development. DHS facilities are excellent and support the range of courses available. All teaching spaces are covered by wi-fi. DHS operates as a Trade Training Centre, with a commercial kitchen and linked teaching space for VET Hospitality and a purpose-built training area for the VET Construction course.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Schools Renewal

The $240 million Schools Renewal Program aims to accelerate projects that will improve the amenity of schools and kick start local jobs for local communities. This is a co-funded program, with each school contributing up to 50 per cent of the project cost.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
