James Busby High School

James Busby High School is situated in a fast growing area of south west Sydney. The school takes pride in its strong values driven welfare approach and its ability to cater for a diverse student population. It is a school where a strong harmony exists between people from different backgrounds and cultures. Attractive grounds are a feature of the school, highlighted by a number of refurbished and new structures. The school has excellent facilities including a more recently refurbished library, a new stage area in the hall, new shade shelters, a new gym, new science labs and a Trade Training Centre for Hospitatity. An extension of the front office and a refurbishment of the canteen and toilets has also greatly improved the facilities available to students, staff and the community. Our welfare system is based around the acronym PRAISE (positive relationships, respect, achievement, integrity, safety and equity) and underpins our approach to all facets of school life. As a comprehensive high school we take in all students from our local area and through quality teaching we take great pride in the fact that we consistently add value to our students in literacy, numeracy and a whole range of other areas. Our excellent teachers are the strongest feature of our school. We value the input from our community into the school especially our parents and other members of our school community.

LED Upgrade

The $157.8 million LED Lighting Upgrade Program will install new LED lights in up to 1,000 public schools across NSW. This means reduced operating costs for schools and improved learning environments and outcomes for our students.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
