Colyton High School
Colyton High School Trade School is a 7-12 comprehensive high school in Western Sydney-a community building pathways to success.The school's core values focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning - Safe, Motivated, Attend, Respect and Tolerate -SMART. The school offers diversity of curriculum with emphasis on quality teaching and learning,incorporating effective and innovative use of technology across all key learning areas along with extensive career pathways including Vocational Education courses.The provision of a Trade facility for Construction provides students with the opportunity to undertake an education and training pathway that offers accreditation for both the Higher School Certificate and study leading to Certificate II Carpentry and competencies that lead to certificate of attainment towards Certificate III in Carpentry within the context of a highly supportive school environment. Students also have the possibility of commencing as School-based Apprentice in Year 11 and complete the apprenticeship in 2 years part-time followed by 3 years post-school. Colyton High School Trade School is memeber to the Colyton Learning Community.Together with partner primary schools, Colyton High School Trade School received the 2010 Director -General’s School Achievement Award for the project Community, leadership,cooperation-creating a sustainable learning community for projects jointly undertaken by the schools. The school offers gifted and talented, sporting,creative and performing arts programs, with success in Rock Eisteddfod competitions and students selected to participate in the School’s Spectacular 2010 - 2011, along with many local showcases. The school is a leader in the effectiveuse of technology as a multimedia platform for thedelivery of animations, simulations and Internet based content into classrooms resulting in instant access to a wide variety of learning resources for students. There is a strong emphasis on student Leadership Programs and effective School Student Representative Council with Junior and Senior School Captains. The school actively supports student involvement in the NSW Premiers Student Volunteering program and Service Learning Program; strengthening partnerships with the local community. Colyton High School Trade School is part of the Colyton Learning Community producing successful middle school programs in literacy, numeracy, science, and environmental education with partner primary schools. The Colyton Learning Community received the 2010 Director -General’s School Achievement Award for Community, Leadership, Cooperation -Creating a Sustainable Learning Community. Aboriginal Education programs involve teaching staff mentoring Aboriginal students; strengthening parent participation and the development of personal learning plans for every student. The school also delivers a range of work transition programs. These include Stage 5 work experience and work placement; students at risk support program; Year 10 School to work interview program; Jobs Pathway Program and Year 12 exit interview program. The School Parents & Citizens have developed and strongly support the School Dress Code with the sale of school uniforms through the canteen for easy access for students and parents. The school provides a breadth of sporting opportunities for students with the provision of a school gym and participation in Grade and Knock out competitions producing outstanding results.
