Mitchell High School

Mitchell High School is a large public comprehensive secondary school located in the Western Suburbs of Sydney at Blacktown. The school has a multicultural population with 52% of students coming from 46 language backgrounds other than English, while over 10% of students have a refugee background. The school provides a pleasant, caring environment where students are encouraged to follow a fine tradition of striving for excellence. The emphasis on tradition and excellence is expected from all students by high personal standards in study, commitment, personal appearance and responsible behaviours. These values are strongly supported by the school community. The school has an excellent reputation in the local community and performs well in academic, sporting and cultural aspects of the curriculum. The school takes all students from the local area and has very strong demand for out of area enrolment; a waiting list exists in each year. A wide curriculum offering is enhanced by strong and flexible use of technology to support learning, special provisions for high achieving students and for those experiencing learning difficulties, English as a Second Language or dialect (EAL/D) and Transition Education programs. Mitchell High School provides various pathways for students, such as an academic pathway to university with a very high success rate for those students seeking a university place. TAFE pathways with significant opportunities to participate in TAFE, School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and alternative pathways to employment. The school has an excellent record of student participation in extracurricular activities such as volunteering, sporting and cultural beyond the school. Student leadership is strong and encouraged. The school has exemplar programs in High Achievers, and Multiculturalism while offering an innovative Self Select class in Years 7 to 10 for highly motivated and self-directed learners. Mitchell High School has a proud history of International Links with sister schools in the USA, Germany, Switzerland, China, Japan and Korea. The Parents & Citizens Association and School Council are very supportive of the school.
