Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College Tumbi Umbi Campus
Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College Tumbi Umbi Campus is a middle years campus collaboratively created by students, staff and community in a rural setting. Successful, confident, socially responsible adolescents are developed through quality, responsive and engaging learning experiences. Our partnership with partner primary schools provides for strong relationships with students before they naturally progress to the campus in Year 7. Students at this campus grow and develop in an environment where excellence and effort are celebrated and success is seen as the norm. Excellence is achieved through the commitment of a dedicated, caring, energetic and highly qualified staff and a proud, supportive community. Students, staff and community work together to answer the real educational question in the adolescent years- “How is this child smart?” TLSC Tumbi Umbi Campus is well recognised, respected, studied and awarded for consistently having students realise their aspirations by achieving personal best in academic, leadership, cultural, creative, performance, sporting, outdoor education, environmental and community arenas at local, state and national levels. Staff are committed to developing students with the skills, attitudes and knowledge necessary to thrive and succeed in the diverse global world in which our students will one day live, work and lead. Current research and educational practices are used to design professional learning for staff. Staff learning is then used to design and deliver students’ learning experiences which recognise and respond to student needs. Our professional learning practices have been used as a model of effective school and staff development. Enrolments are strong and in demand in response to community recognition of the opportunities available to students and the impressive successes enjoyed by students in this inclusive environment. The strength and depth of our curriculum and extra-curricula programs, delivered in outstanding, modern facilities, ensures that students have opportunities to develop their talents and excel. While developing literacy and numeracy we are: brilliant at performance and production as winning Rock Eisteddfod in open division shows; cutting edge in the use of technology as a Microsoft Lead School; in the forefront of lifting student access to university through our AVID Program; leading the education of students for the Asian Century as an Access Asia and BRIDGE Project school while enjoying a sister school exchange with Kashima HS in Japan; deadly in educating Aboriginal students and all students about our nation’s First People; committed to developing community leaders through multiple student leadership opportunities, Duke of Edinburgh, Rural Fire Service Cadetship and student volunteering; creative beyond our years in multimedia, photography, visual arts and music; inclusive as shown through our Support Classes, Motivated Program, Homework Centre and Peace Park.
