Beverly Hills Girls High School

Beverly Hills Girls High School (approximately 1010 students) is committed to educating each individual to embody the school motto: Women Can Do Anything. The school has a fine and long standing reputation as a successful and innovative one; a school where believing in the individual and her talents is the foundation of our leadership, management and curriculum planning for student growth and development. The school is comprised of students from diverse cultural backgrounds and has a co-educational Intensive English Centre (BHIEC) on site. A distinguishing feature of the school is the model for delivery of the junior curriculum: Unitised Vertically Integrated Semester System (ASPIRE). This system allows for integrated extension options (including acceleration), curriculum diversity and breadth that respond to the evolving needs and interests of students. A flexible timetable model is driven by student choice. Experienced and dedicated teachers work within a culture of collegial support and high expectations for both their students' achievement and the quality of learning opportunities they provide. The school recently celebrated 50 years of distinguished service within the education community of south-western Sydney and the high regard with which students held their school over five decades is still very much evident today. Our student code of conduct is based on the value of RESPECT in all our endeavours; respect for themselves and their learning, respect for their school and community and respect for others. The outstanding quality of school life provided for our students and families has been highlighted by the receipt of many distinguished awards, namely: Director General's Award for Excellence in Student Leadership (2007) and Curriculum Innovation (2005), NSW Training Award for Vocational Education and Training Excellence in Schools (2009), Minister's Award for Excellence in Student Achievement (6 student winners since 2008), as well as numerous individual awards for students, teachers and parents across the public education system. In September 2010, the school was nominated by NSW DET to become a Centre for Excellence as part of the Smarter Schools National Partnerships (NP) on Improving Teacher Quality. The school has a strong emphasis on staff professional learning and resources and initiatives developed over the tenure of the NP have been made available for use by all teachers and school leaders through the Centre for Excellence website embedded within the school's website.
