Bass High School
Bass High School is a comprehensive, coeducational school including a support unit, situated at Bass Hill in the school education area of Bankstown. We are a proudly multicultural school with 70% of our students from language backgrounds other than English. Our teaching staff has a strong commitment to improving student learning outcomes through quality teaching, professional learning, literacy, numeracy and student support. Parents and community members play an active and valued role in the life of the school through the Parents and Citizens Association and community liaison officer. The school motto 'Tibi Confidas' (Be true to yourself) underpins our commitment to the values of respect, responsibility and tolerance. The National Partnership on Low SES School Communities and Priority Schools funding are key programs supporting school improvement and innovation. Our learning centres provide extension, learning support and senior student study programs. University students provide regular tutoring assistance and our Aboriginal tutor supports Indigenous education. A broad curriculum offers traditional subjects as well as a range of vocational courses including hospitality, construction and business services. The school farm is a unique feature providing opportunities for students studying agriculture and primary industries. The school boasts a proud sporting tradition across a range of team and individual sports. Rugby League teams regularly achieve significant success and our school is currently state champions in the prestigious Buckley and University Shield competitions. Teams and individuals regularly represent at zone, area and state levels. There is an increasing profile for dance, drama and music performance programs with outstanding recent HSC results. A range of extra-curricular programs operate including Tournament of Minds and our debating teams have achieved significant recent success as zone and interzone champions. The PBIS (Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports) program promotes the development of positive student and teacher relationships and our award and behaviour systems provide students with clear direction and guidance. Regular Recognition of Student Excellence (ROSE) and student leadership programs celebrate student achievement at all levels. The GOALS program provides exceptional student mentoring opportunities. Deloitte is a valued supporter of our school providing vocational and career planning programs. There is exceptional community support for whole-school celebration days that promote school harmony and cohesiveness with The Parade of Nations a highlight. Recent major building works have significantly enhanced the quality of our facilities including fitness centre, performing arts centre, commercial kitchen, home economics facilities upgrade, new Science labs, interactive whiteboards, COLA (main playground), two connected classrooms and disabled facilities including ramps and lifts.
