Sydney Girls High School

Sydney Girls High School is an academically selective state school located in Surry Hills. The school was established in 1883 and is the oldest public girls school in New South Wales. The drawing area is extensive with students coming from all areas of Sydney. Achievements cover academic, sporting, cultural and creative areas with many achieving at national or international level. The school has excellent resources and is at the forefront of technology initiatives with an extensive network and technology support staff. The school places a great emphasis on ensuring effective teaching for gifted girls. Many staff hold postgraduate degrees and the culture is one of high expectations where students are safe to take intellectual risks. At the heart of the school is the belief that the needs of the whole child are met through quality teaching coupled with co-curricular programs which offer socio-affective growth and build strong relationships between students of different ages, with teachers and other adults. Parents play a significant role in the school, partnering staff in the co-curricular programs as well as holding responsibilities in school governance.
