Maroubra Junction Public School is an energetic school that actively promotes a love of learning, celebrates achievements and effort and develops a strong sense of values and community pride. The school provides a quality learning environment which recognises students as individuals in academic, cultural and sporting areas. We value strong links and connections with our parent community and the wider community. We are privileged to be in a recently built school with outstanding modern facilities. Spacious classrooms, a library, computer room, hall, extensive playground areas including a full grass area and covered outdoor learning areas are all features of our state of the art site. A dedicated and professional staff provide a clear focus on literacy and numeracy from K-6 which is reflected in our consistently strong academic results. We are proud of the scope and variety of experiences offered to students in performing arts and sports areas. Our school has two bands, two choirs, dance groups and bi-annual Stage Concerts and Art Shows. Public speaking and debating are valued activities in our school with students participating in school, district and regional compeitions as well as debating via video conference. Healthy Living is promoted through the Live Life Well @ School program which includes focused fitness and PE/Sport programs along with nutritional and personal development components. Primary students can also compete in inter-school sport (softball/teeball, cricket or A.F.L. in Summer or netball, soccer or rugby league in Winter) or participate in a wide variety of other sports including tennis, gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo and basketball. Students in Years 2 to 6 are completing the Premier's Sporting Challenge to promte physical activity. The school offers Greek and Chinese Community Language programs from Kindergarten to Year 6. The use of information and communication technologies is embedded in teaching and learning programs to enhance student learning outcomes. Our school has at least four computers in each of the 25 classrooms and a computer lab with video conferencing facilities. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all classrooms, Language classrooms, ESL rooms, the library and the computer room. The school also has a class set of mobile wireless netbook computers which can be accessed by classes. An active Student Welfare policy which includes the Core Values of Learning, Leadership, Integrity, Support, Cooperation, Acceptance, Respect and Friendliness underpins all activities and practices of our school. A positive behaviour reward system is in place in both classrooms and the playground. An active Year 6 leadership group and Student Representative Council (Years 2-6) contribute to school decision making and events. A particular focus on the environmental has been the SRC's aim for 2010 and 2011. They have implemented numerous Scrap The Wrap days and green assemblies. We have a quality Before and After School Care Centre facility and before or after school tuition is available in guitar, keyboard, Greek, Spanish and chess. The school's parent community is actively involved in many activities through work in classrooms, the P&C and the School Council.
