Les Powell School

Les Powell School has as its central aim the provision of high quality educational programs which support the needs of students with severe intellectual and multiple disabilities. The School's motto is 'Towards Independence'. It reflects our aim to provide all students with learning outcomes relevant to present and future community living. The Priority School Program (PSP) funding provides support to develop the students' communication programs, physiotherapy and parent information workshops. From Year 9 onwards transition is the focus for the students as they prepare for leaving school. During Individual Transition Plan meetings, parents, teachers and other personnel set priorities in areas such as curriculum, vocational training, community access, transport/mobility, leisure and recreation and personal development. Students in Year 12 focus on their preferred post school option programs and service providers as part of their transition programs with the view of accessing the services when they finish school. The school has integration funding to support selected students' integration into mainstream schools. We have a positive school culture where our students are happy.
