Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre
Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre offers fieldwork experiences for school students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The centre also provides support to teachers and schools in Environmental Education and Education for Sustainability. Class or school groups can visit for a single day or stay for extended periods. The centre has excellent accommodation facilities. Thalgarrah serves a large area in northern NSW, stretching from the upper Hunter to the Queensland border and from the coast to as far west as Bourke. The centre is located in the New England heartland 18 kms from the university city of Armidale. Established in 1976, it occupies the site of a former small school. Access to the Swallowfield Wildlife Refuge and other properties and sites provides a range of venues in which students can complete many different field and environmental programs. The centre's programs cover elements of the environment of both natural and cultural (Aboriginal and European) significance. The centre's location is ideally positioned to take advantage of some of the State's most spectacular national parks. These include Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, New England National Park and many other parks.
