Rivendell School

Rivendell is a state-wide interdisciplinary facility comprising Rivendell School for Specific Purposes and Rivendell Child, Adolescent and Family Services. It is a joint Health/Department of Education and Training facility located in the Strathfield Network at Concord West. The School is staffed by specialist teachers and support staff, and the Unit by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and psychiatric nurses. Clinical and Educational staff work collaboratively on education programs. Rivendell School caters for a maximum of 77 students with emotional, behavioural and mental health issues. Students attend school daily, and may be admitted to the Unit as either day or residential patients. The school operates five programs: Lawson Program (Mood disorders/School refusal), Sulman Program (Tutorial), Yaralla Program (Psychosis), Paterson Program (Emotional Disorder) and Walker Unit (Acute Psychiatric Ward). In addition, an Outreach Learning Centre operates at the Gna Ka Lun Acute Unit in Campbelltown Hospital. The goal is to equip the student to cope better at their home school following discharge or to refer the student to another appropriate program.
