Niland School

Niland School is a Regional facility that provides educational and behavioural programs for students with emotional and intellectual disabilities. The school provides individual educational programs designed to meet the lifelong learning needs of the students. These programs are developed through a collaborative process involving the student, their parents and caregivers, school staff and personnel from relevant support agencies. The school curriculum is centred around the development of academic, vocational, physical, social and creative skills that will allow the students to achieve an independent, fulfilling lifestyle. The core values of the school are Respect, Safety and Learning - these underpin all aspects of school organisation. Some unique features of the school are the Aboriginal Education Program, a teaching program taught to all classes as a supportive mechanism to cater to the increasing numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students enrolled in the school but more importantly for ALL students to gain a greater cutlural awareness/connectedness to culture. Community particpation has been enhanced with increasing attendance at assemblies, special functions, events and class programs.
