Mainsbridge School

Mainsbridge School, a Kindergarten to Year12 school, provides quality special education programs for students with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities. Currently the school has an enrolment of 116 students. The school community is extremely supportive of school initiatives with an average 70% attendance rate at planned events. Communication programs and Individual Education Plans are major focus areas and are developed collaboratively with parents and carers. Programs are modified to address student needs and are based on the NSW Board Of Studies Curriculum. The school discipline policy includes a set of clear guidelines and rules that provide strategies to promote positive behaviours. As a result, Positive Behaviour for Learning was implemented. The school discipline code is comprised of a set of school rules which have been developed in line with the Core Values of NSW Public Schools. Integration and community access programs provide opportunities for students to develop academic and social skills in a regular school and community environment. Sailability, at Penrith Lakes, was introduced in 2008 to enable students to experience sailing. This activity has increased self confidence and instilled a sense of achievement.
