Cairnsfoot School

Cairnsfoot School with an enrolment of round 80 students is situated in Arncliffe and caters for students from age 4 to 18 years with either a moderate or severe intellectual disability. The school aims to provide a caring, safe, quality learning environment while respecting the dignity and individuality of all members of the school. The staff in partnership with parents and the wider community create functional individual educational programs for all students across the key learning areas (KLAs). The individualised curriculum has an emphasis on effective communication, high standards of social behaviour and the productive use of leisure time. All students have individual communication systems that can be used across all environments. The school's boundaries are fluid to encompass every aspect of the general community in order to allow instruction to be carried out in the environment where the student would be expected to use the skill. The school works in close partnership with the wider community and support agencies to foster mutual understanding, respect and trust to ensure that the students and their families are best able to meet the challenges they encounter.
