Verona School

Verona SSP (BD) supports about 21 students from Years 5 to 8. Students are assigned to classes according to stage level. Students initially attend Verona School four days per week, with attendance at their referring home school beginning on the Thursday of each week. Over the term of the program the goal will be full reintegration over 40 weeks. Referring schools are encouraged to consider placement at Verona School as a proactive and necessary phase of a coordinated intervention and partnership between the families and the schools. The generic aspects of the Verona program include strategies to improve classroom/playground peer interaction and the appropriate negotiation of needs. Of particular emphasis is the development of skills for the self-management of behaviour, problem solving and anger/conflict resolution. The Verona program is designed to support the holistic needs of the student, including social and living skills and the development of academic skills across Key Learning Areas. Verona program expectations reflect those competencies necessary for successful inclusion in mainstream education while supporting the professional development of teachers in the area of behaviour management.
