The Beach School
The Beach School (SSP) is a DEC educational facility for students in Years 7 through to Yr 12 who have disengaged from mainstream schooling due to severe emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The school mission is to provide a nurturing and safe environment where students can develop respect for others, take responsibility for their own actions, improve their own self-esteem and achieve outcomes in academic, social and behavioural skills. Students are better prepared to enter the world of work, TAFE or integrate back to mainstream. The school achieves this by working closely with support services and agencies in the community, running a variety of challenging yet engaging educational programs including an Integrated Curriculum across the KLAs. Student achievements are further enhanced through other programs including the Duke of Edinburgh program, Stage 5 and Stage 6 Vocational Education and Training in Maunfacturing Pathways, Construction and Business Services, Community Service through Bushlink and Soup Kitchen, environmental studies including our own Kitchen Garden, Surf Life Saving, WHS white card and First Aid training. The school has 42 students at any one time which allows for a highly personalised approach to student learning. Students are only at the school for a limited time during their secondary schooling. The school plays an important role in the community by assisting students and their families in accessing support through local agencies. We also host inter-agency network meetings facilitating information exchange between DEC schools and support agencies/departments.
