Naremburn School

Naremburn School is located in a heritage listed building, built in 1886, near North Sydney. It caters for 35 students in years 7 to 12 who have exhibited severe behavioural difficulties and/or emotional disturbances in their mainstream school. Naremburn School provides individualised education aimed at addressing each student's academic, vocational, behavioural and emotional needs. Students are provided with intensive behavioural and emotional support, vocational preparation and an educational program which meets the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) outcomes in a highly structured and supportive classroom environment. Classes are organised with seven students and two adults per multi-age class. The development of the educational program is via a range of high-engagement strategies including teacher expertise, NESA resources, hands-on activities, excursions, practical subjects, distance education, and purchased resources. Students are able to access their Higher School Certificate (HSC) via a full academic, pathways or life skills program.  The school is well equipped with interactive whiteboards, a video conferencing unit, a fully functional and effective Art/Industrial Arts facility, a spacious food technology classroom, five connected classrooms, and an indoor sports court.  Outside agencies and personnel deliver services at the school  such as drug & alcohol interventions, psychological counselling, music therapy and relationship building. The staff at Naremburn School operate within a team structure with the students' academic and emotional needs as the focus.  The educative model is the cornerstone of the Naremburn School program with the parents, students, staff and outside agencies or personnel working together as the perferred mode of case mangement.
