Illawarra Hospital School
The Illawarra Hospital School provides continuity of education for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students are either inpatients of Wollongong Hospital or outpatients and as such form part of our Day Student Program. This program allows students, on the advice of their specialist doctor, to attend the school after discharge. Our staff is experienced in working with students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in our multi-stage classroom. Consideration is given to the implications that each student's illness or injury may have on their learning. Our school works collaboratively with the student's home school and parents to deliver meaningful and appropriate programs. These programs also incorporate discrete educational activities to cater for the transient nature of the student population. Liaison with home schools ensures that the Individual Learning Program designed for the student is consistent with, as well as supports, the home school program. This is particularly relevant for long-term students, those with recurrent admissions and senior students. As the return to the home school becomes imminent, liaison facilitates a successful transition.
