St George Hospital School

St George Hospital School is a single classroom school located in the Paediatric Ward of St George Hospital. The school aims to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment to students who are hospitalised. All students (Kindergarten to Year 12) from both public and private schools are offered educational support, either in the classroom or on the ward. Staff at St George Hospital School are experienced in working in a K-12 multi stage and multi disciplined educational setting. Continuity of education is maintained through communication and co-operation with home schools. The school also works in partnership with St George Hospital Mental Health Team, nursing staff, doctors and allied health professionals to provide appropriate individualised support to students. Transition programs are developed to assist students returning to school after extended stays in hospital. The school has laptops, software and cameras available for use by students, both on the ward and in the classroom. There is a continuing focus on extending staff technological skills and expanding ICT resources. As a result a range of innovative programs are available to students. The support that St George Hospital School provides to students is highly valued by families, staff and hospital community members and promotes a positive profile for Public Education.
