Newcastle Senior School

Newcastle School aims to create educational pathways for students with intellectual disability and complex, multiple disabilities which significantly limit access to regular school curriculum. Uniquely, Newcastle School comprises three separate schools: Newcastle Junior School provides Pre-school to Year 4 programs and guides students through their transition from early childhood to the primary years; Newcastle Middle School provides Year 5 to Year 8 programs and guides students through their early adolescent years; and Newcastle Senior School provides Year 9 to 12 programs with a focus on preparing students for post-school life. From enrolment to the final months of school, students of Newcastle School are involved in transition education. With a clear focus on quality of life outcomes, Newcastle School negotiates individual learning plans with the families of each student. Newcastle School has 32 permanent teacher positions which include 4 principal positions (Lead Principal and 3 site principals), 8 AP positions and 20 teacher positions. All teaching staff meet the requirements for teaching in NSW public schools. Additionally the school has 28 School Learning Support Officers and 3 senior administration managers. All staff aim to provide students with the skills, knowledge and values necessary for success. The school works closely with families and community support agencies to discover and develop the potential of every child.
