Georges River Environmental Education Centre
The Georges River Environmental Education Centre (GREEC) provides programs for students (K to 12) and teachers within the landscape of the Georges River catchment. It is in the heart of one of the most urbanized and culturally diverse regions in Australia, and provides programs forĀ up to 6,000 of its students annually. The programs are syllabus based and integrated across the curriculum, but with a major focus on developing environmental sensitivity, sustainability and citizenship. Many programs are concerned with urban impacts on remnant ecosystems in the local setting, and driven by the belief that sustainable behaviour and practice needs to occur at every level. As well as fieldwork and excursion programs, GREEC offers students opportunities to participate in programs of environmental monitoring and repair, and provides on-school-site activities to enable the more sustainable and climate friendly management of water, resources, energy and biodiversity. GREEC programs are enhanced by partnerships with local councils, University of Wesern Sydney and environmental agencies. We are constantly seeking new ways to assist students and schools in the pursuit of sustainable practice, and learning programs that reflect and enable it.
