Fisher Road School

Fisher Road School is located in Dee Why on Sydney's northern beaches. The school offers enrolment to students between 4 and 18 years of age who present with high support needs due to their intellectual disability. Many of the students also have additional physical, emotional and sensory problems. Fisher Road offers individualized programs to meet each student's unique needs, within the framework of the key learning areas. All classes are staffed with a minimum of one teacher and a teacher's aide. The focus for the school is developing all students so they can participate to the best of their ability in the community. Community access through activities such as shopping, work training and integration into mainstream settings form a critical part of our programs. Communication is a focus for all programs and the Pictorial Exchange Communication System is used throughout the school. Each room has internet- linked computers and most have interactive whiteboards, ensuring skill development in adaptive technology for all students. Therapy services are gained through referral to Department of Aging Disability and Home Care therapy staff who work with students and staff at the school.
