Hurstville Grove Infants School

Hurstville Grove is an inclusive school with a strong reputation for quality early childhood and early intervention programs. These programs lay strong foundations for later learning. Our school motto is 'Do Your Best', and we aim to provide quality learning outcomes for all children and promote a lifelong love of learning. The learning environment is happy, positive and safe and this helps students develop positive self-esteem and social skills. Students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to prepare them for new learning, social challenges, creative problem solving, investigation and decision making. At Hurstville Grove we celebrate the success and efforts of all members of our school community. Parents, students and teachers work in partnership to maintain and promote our secure, stable and positive learning environment. Positive student learning outcomes continue to be the focus of all teaching and learning programs. Students access quality indoor and outdoor learning environments. We have well-resourced facilities with state-of-the-art technology including Connected Classrooms, interactive whiteboards and computers in each classroom. The school is very active within the local community and the students support Easter and Christmas celebrations at St Aidan's Church, with performances for the Senior Citizens at Christmas. Additionally, the community is involved in a number of fundraising activities including: Stewart House, the Cancer Council and the Salvation Army and sending resources to schools in Laos and the Pacific Islands. Hurstville Grove has a strong reputation for developing academic excellence and leadership skills in our students. Our students do not sit the Naplan test as this assessment is not administered until Year 3. The Year 3 Naplan test results reflect the learning that occurs in Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two. The performances of our students in the Naplan-Year 3 assessment are outstanding. In Mathematics and English most students perform in the upper two bands. The excellence in academic performance can be attributed to high quality teaching and learning programs tailored to meet individual needs and the opportunities provided for extension activites for gifted and talented students. Every student at Hurstville Grove is special. Staff and the community nurture their individual needs and talents and ample leadership opportunities are provided. These build resilence, confidence and collegiality amongst students and their peers. A sense of community and responsibility is fostered in all students. A high proportion of our students take on major leadership roles at their new schools. Recently, 90% of our graduates became school captains, vice captains or prefects at their new schools - a testament to our leadership development. Students at Hurstville Grove develop excellent academic, leadership and interpersonal skills. They are happy, confident and mature ambassadors of our school.
