Hornsby South Public School

Hornsby South Public School is located on Sydney’s Upper North Shore where the traditional custodians of the land are the Darug and GuriNgai Peoples. The school has an enrolment of 563 students, including 1% Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. Our students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. There are 76% of our students from a language background other than English, with 46 languages and dialects other than English represented. Cultural diversity is acknowledged and celebrated throughout our students learning journey. There is a strong focus on student wellbeing, supporting the academic, social and emotional development of students. Hornsby South Public School students have opportunities to participate and excel in many enrichment programs that deepen their knowledge and broaden their understandings of arts, drama, dance, music, science and technology, sport, languages, numeracy, public speaking and leadership. The school is committed to explicitly teaching and modelling positive behaviour, and to supporting all students to be engaged in their learning. We focus on promoting excellence, opportunity and success for every student, everyday. We value and strive to develop respectful, responsible and aspiring learners in a caring learning community. Hornsby South Public School is continuing on our Visible Learning journey, encouraging teachers, students and parents to be active participants in the learning process. The delivery of high-impact teacher professional learning and data-informed practices ensures students are provided with differentiated, explicit and engaging learning opportunities. Through the triangulation and analysis of data, learning goals are identified and addressed, using evidence-informed teaching practices.
