Bourke-Walgett School of Distance Education (Bourke Campus)

Bourke Walgett School of Distance Education is a rural based school in the Western Region delivering a unique and diverse style of education. Innovative technology and quality learning materials and a variety of field services are used to enhance and improve individual student learning. The school consists of two centres 230km apart - one is situated in Bourke, the other in Walgett. The centres are linked by satellite and the school is supported by CAP. The school enrolment of 102 students consists of 82 Home Isolated, 7 Travellers, 11 Behaviour and 2 Extraordinary Enrolments. All Home Isolated students are part of the Satellite Education Program and receive part of their lessons by satellite. The school is staffed with a Principal, 2 Assistant Principals (one based in Bourke the other in Walgett), 8 classroom teachers and 2 full-time SAS. This year the school has successfully implemented Jolly Phonics K-6 and will participate in Reading to Learn training next year. Our purpose is to provide an equitable, relevant, engaging education through collaboration with students, parents, supervisors and the wider community to raise expectations and provide challenging experiences.
