Bonnet Bay Public School is situated near the scenic Woronora River in the Sutherland Shire approximately 40 minutes south of the Sydney CBD. The riverside suburb is renowned for its beautiful bushland surroundings and warm community spirit. Located in a peaceful environment, Bonnet Bay PS is a small and friendly primary school offering quality education to our students in modern facilities.Bonnet Bay Public School has innovative and dedicated staff which includes a teaching Principal, Assistant Principal, classroom teachers, Learning and Support teacher, librarian, school counsellor, school chaplain, Japanese language teacher and welcoming and efficient office staff. In 2015 we have six classes and 150 students. Situated on site is an Itinerant Support Teachers Hearing (ISTH) Unit. This unit has specialist trained staff of an Assistant Principal and six teachers who support hearing-impaired students from pre-school to Year 12 in the Sutherland and St George areas.All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, networked computers and reverse cycle air-conditioning. The school has a 'connected classroom' allowing students to interact in their learning. This occurs through participation in virtual excursions with other schools and educational institutions all over the world. The physical attributes of the school include a well-equipped library; class sized computer laboratory; large equipped hall, dedicated band and Audio Visual rooms and wet areas adjacent to all classrooms. For our senior classes we have wireless based Notebook laptops for the students to engage in 21st century learning 'on the go' in the classroom. Junior classes can access and utilise Ipads and desktop computers in their classroom for small group work. We have two large playgrounds and an adjacent nature walk which was established with the assistance of Sutherland Shire Council and their Green web Environmental program.Bonnet Bay PS has Preschool and Before and After School care facilities run by a private provider on site. These high quality facilities provide excellent care for students on a permanent or casual basis. The school in partnership with the community has a shared vision and aspirations for the future. This vision is achieved through engaging students in high quality learning experiences through best practice for optimum learning outcomes. Our teaching staff provides a differentiated curriculum demonstrating and implementing best practice for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our record of high academic achievement is shown by NAPLAN results that are consistently higher than the national and state average. As well as the core curriculum, our students are provided with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of enrichment and extra-curricular programs, catering for a diverse range of needs, interests and talents. This includes choirs, band, drama, dance, visual arts, public speaking, gymnastics, yoga, a range of interschool sporting competitions, multimedia and environmental studies. Students from pre-school to year 6 are immersed in our Japanese language program which is delivered by a specialist language teacher. The School values, introduced in 2014, of "Care, Co-operation, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility" encourage every student to achieve their personal best.To meet the social and emotional needs of our students, we provide a school environment which is centred upon, staff, students and parents, working together as a learning community. We are proud of our proactive student welfare practices and student leadership programs including Kindergarten/Year Six Buddies, High School and Kindergarten Transition programs. Our student leaders participate in a number of training days and leadership opportunities both at school and off-site. Our fair and balanced Student Welfare and discipline policy and award system rewards positive learning behaviours. Our Traffic Light system teaches students to be aware of and responsible for their own behaviour. All classes are taught life resilience skills through our "Bounce Back" program. Specific programs are designed and delivered by our school counsellor and chaplain to support individual and small group needs.We are a high achieving, small school where each child is nurtured and has an opportunity to achieve their personal best.
