Shalvey Public School
Shalvey Public School is situated in western Sydney and draws its students from the local area. The school, established in 1974, has close ties with the community and together we equip students with the highest quality learning experiences in all fields of endeavour, emphasising literacy and numeracy. Growing and learning as individuals, our students develop an ability to take their place in society functioning as independent and contributing members. The school receives substantial additional funding which facilitates literacy and numeracy professional learning, allows the school to employ additional teaching and support staff and create smaller class sizes that enhances personalised learning opportunities for every student. As an Early Action for Success initiative school, Shalvey PS has an appointed Instructional Leader and extra resources to maximise the literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students in Kindergarten to Year 2. Students enjoy an extensive sporting and cultural program including inter-school competitions, performance opportunities and carnivals. Our thoroughly committed and professional staff promotes a safe, caring, self-disciplined community that achieves well-being and encourages students to participate in the decision-making process. A culturally diverse school population includes 24% Aboriginal and 21% Pacific Islander students with 45% from a language background other than English. The recent refurbishment of the school and regular use of technology, including interactive whiteboards, provides a stimulating learning environment. The school also operates a strong transition to school program for families with preschool age children.
