Glenroy Public School

Glenroy Public School is situated in the rural city of Albury with a total enrolment of 217 students. The student population has a small number of English as an Additional Language or Dialect students and 25% Aboriginal students. The school consists of multiple composite classes and three multi-categorical classes. The dedicated and enthusiastic staff work collaboratively to provide a safe and challenging learning environment that encourages all students to meet their full potential in academic, cultural, social, emotional and sporting endeavours. The school has a strong focus on teacher development and fosters leadership opportunities. This occurs through weekly designated professional collaboration, that focuses on collaborative programming and lesson observations designed to improve and reflect upon teaching and learning. The school flexibly utilises equity funding to provide additional teaching and support staff to run literacy and numeracy intervention programs and support classroom learning. The school has an unwavering focus on student wellbeing and attendance, with a designated Attendance Coordinator and Aboriginal Education Officer working with families to maintain regular attendance. The students are explicitly taught the three core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. To support the students and families, the school operates a daily breakfast club, has a second-hand uniform shop and works closely with agencies outside of the school to help improve student outcomes. Through our situation analysis, we have identified a need to focus on lifting achievement in literacy and numeracy through data-informed practices and explicit teaching, to ensure effective and responsive curriculum delivery. Student wellbeing remains a key driver at the school, with the need to further develop whole-school wellbeing processes and improve student attendance through increasing student engagement. All initiatives to lift student achievement are underpinned by raising attendance rates throughout the school.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
