Woodberry Public School

Woodberry Public School is situated in the Hunter region near the cities of Maitland and Newcastle. The school was established in 1973 for the surrounding semi-rural area. Woodberry Public School is a community focused school, which has a clear mission to provide a happy, secure learning environment for all of its students. A significant number of our students come from families with a low socio-economic background and approximately 25% of our students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. The school incorporates Schools as Community Centres within its grounds, which attracts various inter-agency involvements across a number of dimensions. Woodberry Public School has been included in the Priority Schools Program over a number of years and in 2009 has been included in the Priority Action Schools funding program. Our current strategic directions have targeted three distinct areas of need as identified through National and school-based testing programs and through other data collected at State, Regional and School level which include attendance data, suspension data and benchmarking. These focus areas are Literacy, Numeracy and Student Engagement.
