Wakehurst Public School

Wakehurst Public School is located in a spacious bushland setting including excellent level playing fields and future focused facilities. Our students are motivated and challenged in their education through quality teaching practices which support high expectations and inspire our students to be their best in a complex and dynamic global society.

Striving to achieve one's personal best in academic, sporting, cultural and interpersonal endeavours is integral in our learning programs. We recognise that each student has different learning needs, so both challenging extension and extra support are offered across all Key Learning Areas.

In addition to catering for each student's needs, students are taught weekly by specialist teachers in library, digital technology (including robotics) and music. Students also have the opportunity to participate in additional sport, dance, drama, band, debating, chess, public speaking and environmental programs. Our innovative student welfare initiatives are supported the principles of Positive Behaviour for Learning which publicly recognises student achievement. Our buddy program across all K-6 classes helps to develop a sense of community and encourages new friendships to support one another both socially and with their learning.

We value the positive home school partnerships which strengthen and support our students' education.

All classroom learning spaces have been updated with flexible furniture and the school is fully air-conditioned. Our Year 5 and 6 classrooms work with a Bring Your Own Device model using Chromebooks and Google Classroom to support and augment student learning.

Our uniform shop and healthy canteen and run by our P and C and our before and after school care program is coordinated by Primary OSH Care.

This school’s intake area is changing

As communities grow and change, the department sometimes needs to adjust local enrolment intake areas. These changes help keep enrolments balanced across schools and make sure every student can access high-quality public education in well-resourced, supportive learning environments.

Kambora Public School will be placed into recess effective 27 January 2026. This means that the school will not be accepting enrolments for the 2026 school year.

To provide clarity and certainty for the local community, an intake area adjustment has been implemented to support continuity of learning for students.

The current Kambora Public School intake area, and any existing students, will be reassigned to Mimosa Public School.

Additional small changes for Belrose Public School and Wakehurst Public School are happening at the same time to optimise travel times and walkability, promote community cohesion and achieve a more equitable distribution of students amongst local schools.

The intake area is changing for all new enrolments from 2026.

I have a child already attending this school. Can they stay there if I am now in a different school’s intake area?

Students currently enrolled at Kambora Public School will need to apply for an alternative public school in 2026. Existing students and families in the Kambora Public School intake area will now have the option of attending Mimosa Public School as a local student.

For families at other local schools, such as Belrose Public School, Mimosa Public School and Wakehurst Public School, there is no requirement to change schools due to the intake area adjustments.

I have a child already attending a local school. Can I enrol their sibling/s at the same school?

For families at other local schools, such as Belrose Public School, Mimosa Public School and Wakehurst Public School, siblings of currently enrolled students will be assessed under the departments enrolment policy .

Families with a child currently enrolled at their assigned local school will retain the ability to enrol siblings at the same school, even if there are changes to the intake area boundaries that make their home address out-of-area.

How are new intake areas developed?

Many factors are considered to inform the development of new intake areas for example:

- enrolment trends

- opportunities to align with primary school local intake areas

- public transport access

- the size and utilisation rate of schools

- the number of students living in each proposed intake area

- and the physical capacity of schools to enrol students

LED Upgrade

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
