Holsworthy Public School
Holsworthy Public School serves a multi-cultural community, including a Defence Force Community (13%). In 2010 the school undertook, through the Building Education Revolution, a total new refurbishment of the school that included brand new 21st century classrooms with Interactive White Boards in every classroom. In addition upgrades were made to the Library, Outdoor Learning areas (inluding three new Covered Outdoor Learning Areas), Hall and Administration Block. Holsworthy is truly a first class learning environment with some of the finest facilities in the state. The school has a very positive, supportive student culture where students feel safe and supported and are engaged in their learning. The staff have high expectations of student achievement and behaviour. The school has a strong discipline program and every child knows the positive rewards for good behaviours and consequences of unacceptable behaviours. The school has a long tradition of excellent academic achievement, evidenced by the numbers of local students gaining places in the OC class and among the best levels of success in Selective High school placement. To achieve its goals the school has a strong focus in: 1) Basic Core Skills - our major Core Focus is every child's academic achievement; 2) Early intervention in literacy and numeracy; 3) Special programs in occupational therapy, speech, Reading Recovery and identification of gifted and talented students; 4) Student Welfare through a wide range of programs to meet student needs; 5) Student Leadership through Student Parliament and peer tutoring programs; 6) Curriculum Continuity through links with Holsworthy High School, local preschools and the Holsworthy Community of Schools; 7) Sporting and Cultural activities; 8) Talented Students programs with extension opportunities across the school including Opportunity Class and Enrichment Classes; 9) Community Decision making through the Parents and Citizens Association and School Council; 10) Technology Focus by electronic linking of students and staff to the internet through a local area network and an Interactive White Board in every class; 11) Leadership Development program for executive staff and teachers; and 12) Comprehensive Assessment Strategies using outcome-based reporting processes and a modern, technology oriented library.
