Morgan Street Public School is a primary school which is located in the northern area of Broken Hill. Our school is part of a dynamic community and aims to provide an education in which learning programs focus on the intellectual, social, emotional, cultural and physical development of each child, within the framework of the six Key Learning Areas. A focus of the school is to provide a happy and inclusive environment where each student is respected, cared for and nurtured. Our community highly values academic achievement, social-emotional development and actively encourages students to strive for the highest personal achievement in all aspects of their school and personal life. Our staff are dedicated to improving student outcomes through quality teaching and learning practices and innovative programs. There is an expectation that all students will achieve in a caring, supportive environment. Our school provides a broad range of activities from performing arts, cultural, leadership, sporting, environmental and academic pursuits. Our student wellbeing is underpinned by Positive Behaviour for Learning and the school’s core values are packaged as P.R.O.U.D. This message is central to all conversations regarding student welfare. Demountables

New public preschool: New public preschool at Morgan Street Public School

As part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering a historic $1.4 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education. As part of the plan to rebuild essential services, the NSW Government has invested $769 million to deliver 100 new public preschools, including building a new preschool at every new government primary school in NSW, to boost access to preschool across the state. Early planning is underway to consider the needs of the local area now and into the future to ensure the right preschool is designed for the community. Design professionals are in the process of being engaged, site due diligence activities will be underway in the coming months. We will share information throughout this project and update this dedicated project page to keep everyone informed about the progress we are making. Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

The $240 million Schools Renewal Program aims to accelerate projects that will improve the amenity of schools and kick start local jobs for local communities. This is a co-funded program, with each school contributing up to 50 per cent of the project cost.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
