Banksia Road Public School

Banksia Road Public School, established in 1959, serves the diverse community of Greenacre, in south western Sydney. The school and its students enjoy a large site with extensive grassed playing fields and native bushland. Students work in comfortable air-conditioned classrooms with access to the latest technology. The current enrolment is 560 students from K-6, including 95% from a non-speaking English background, of which 82% speak Arabic. We continue to achieve oustanding academic results, being validated as 'Excelling' by the Department of Education for our value added from Year 3 to 5.  The schools vision is to provide students with opportunities to pursue academic and personal excellence in a nurturing, community environment. We aim to inspire excellence in teaching and learning, enabling allour students to reach their potential so they become respectful, resilient and successful citizens. The three strategic directions are: 1. Facilitating high quality student learning - Embrace the individuality of each student by ensuring they feel safe, secure and respected. Develop and nurture students to become active, informed responsible citizens. - Purpose - To equip students with the skills required in the 21st century through explicit assessment driven teaching practices. To maximise success for all students through the development of programs to meet the academic, social and welfare needs of every student. 2. Producing outstanding teachers and educational leaders - Provide ongoing, differentiated staff professional learning to support 21st century teaching and leadership development. - Purpose - To embed a culture where teachers share expertise and take responsibility for their own learning. Teachers develop innovative ways to teach and assess 21st century capabilities. 3. Fostering productive, supportive professional partnerships - Develop school, community and global partnerships. - Purpose - To maximise student success through building strong, supportive, collaborative relationships with parents, outside agencies and educators both locally and globally.
