Rydalmere East Public School

Rydalmere East Public School is a small community school with special emphasis on the development of literacy and numeracy skills, supported by outstanding facilities and resources. We provide a balanced literacy program which effectively utilises our additional support staff. This allows for the students to be working in small groups with a high level of engagement, explicit quality activities and high expectations throughout each lesson. Our school is a member of the Centre for Excellence in numeracy. We provide meaningful, rich activities for all students. These include Mathletics, Count Me In Too, Counting On, explicit problem solving strategies, Quick Smart. Relevant hands on experiences allow students make substantial connections to their prior knowledge. Technology is embedded in all class programs as students are given opportunities to work productively in an environment clearly focussed on learning outcomes. Student engagement is enhanced by the use of interactive whiteboards in classrooms, a new state of the art computer laboratory, the connected classroom and class sets of laptop computers. Our school offers a successful performing arts program which includes choir, dance and instrumental ensembles, many of which have successfully auditioned to perform at the Sydney Opera House. Our extensive grounds incorporate a variety of sporting facilities, including a new full sized cricket net, a dual purpose basketball/netball court and soccer field. We have successful sporting teams that participate in interschool sport all year. In recent years we have been champions in Cricket, Soccer, Netball and students have represented the school in all regional sporting teams. Our environmental program has been recognised by the CSIRO Education Unit. Creating a sustainable environment is a school and wider community focus. A whole school approach to student welfare ensures students are encouraged and challenged to achieve their personal best in a positive atmosphere where participation, effort and achievement are recognised and rewarded. Our on-site preschool provides children with an educational 'prior to school' program and excellent opportunities for a smooth transition to kindergarten. The school encourages the local community to be actively involved in all aspects of school life. We boast an active and dedicated P and C and we have an open door policy for parent participation in classrooms.
