Padstow North Public School

Padstow North Public School is situated in the south western area of Sydney. Current enrolment is 372 students in 2018. The school provides a safe and challenging learning environment where students develop a strong respect for others and a positive attitude to life-long learning. Quality educational programs in all Key Learning Areas are provided, while encouraging all students to develop to their full potential. Additional learning and support is provided through Learning and Support Teachers and programs, English as a Second Language specialist teacher and programs, and our School Counsellor. Our students use educational technologies to engage, apply knowledge to new situations, analyse information, collaborate and problem solve. The Parents and Citizens Association is critical to the education and development of all the students at Padstow North. Our P&C, families and community are actively involved in all aspects of school life. Home/school partnerships are encouraged to facilitate effective learning. We also have a strong creative and performing arts and sport programs. Students are involved in many extra curricular activities including debating, public speaking, choral concerts, dance concerts and KATTTS (a voluntary program of Kids Attempting To Tidy Their School). The school has expansive grounds including a full sized oval. These grounds are used annually for the East Hills Zone Cross Country Carnival. The school has an increasing number of students from language backgrounds other than English. 65% are from a Language Background Other Than English and 54% speak a Language Other than English. The school has two classes for students with a primary diagnosis of Autism. All teaching staff meet the requirements for teaching in NSW Public Schools. Padstow North Public School prides itself on its academic curriculum where it regularly achieves above state average results in all curriculum areas, demonstrating excellent growth results from Year 3 to Year 5 and Year 5 to Year 7. LED Upgrade

The $157.8 million LED Lighting Upgrade Program will install new LED lights in up to 1,000 public schools across NSW. This means reduced operating costs for schools and improved learning environments and outcomes for our students.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

The $240 million Schools Renewal Program aims to accelerate projects that will improve the amenity of schools and kick start local jobs for local communities. This is a co-funded program, with each school contributing up to 50 per cent of the project cost.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
