Matraville Soldiers Settlement Public School

Established in 1927, Matraville Soldiers’ Settlement Public School is a vibrant Preschool to Year Six public school located near the beachside suburbs of Maroubra and Malabar. Nestled on Menin Road, the school benefits from its proximity to Heffron Park, a key facility for sports and outdoor activities, and the iconic Maroubra and Malabar beaches. Our school stands proudly on Dharawal Country, fostering strong connections to Aboriginal culture and heritage, reflected in our values of Respect, Responsibility, Learning, and Safety. Our culturally rich environment celebrates the diversity of our students, creating a space where all children can thrive and build meaningful connections. Students at Matraville Soldiers’ Settlement are well-behaved, respectful, and supportive of one another, embodying the inclusive and collaborative spirit of our community. We offer a broad and engaging curriculum that emphasises academic excellence, creativity, and the development of high potential and gifted education (HPGE). Our programs include music tuition, Koori and contemporary dance, public speaking, creative and performing arts, sports (including ESPSSA), film-making and coding. Our Aboriginal bush tucker trail is a unique feature of our spacious grounds, complementing our adventure playground, netball/basketball court, and other facilities. At the heart of our school is a deep commitment to student wellbeing and achievement. Our active Learning Support Team carefully monitors and supports students’ academic, social, and emotional needs, ensuring tailored opportunities for growth, enrichment, and inclusion. The school’s dedication to HPGE programs reflects our focus on identifying and nurturing the potential of every learner, empowering them to excel in areas of strength and passion. Matraville Soldiers’ Settlement Public School thrives on its strong community connections. Staff, parents, and the wider community work together to support an ethos of care, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We value lifelong learning for all members of our school community, underpinned by innovative, child-centred approaches that inspire curiosity, resilience, and independence. As a school deeply connected to its cultural heritage and local environment, we aim to provide every student with opportunities to embrace their identity, celebrate diversity, and develop the skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to their world.
