Bellambi Public School

Bellambi Public is a school which excels in quality teaching. Our school is a place where life-long learning occurs, both for students and staff. Professional and supportive teachers inspire students through diverse educational programs. The teachers at Bellambi Public School are highly skilled and passionate about achieving the best learning outcomes for every one of our students. Student learning is enriched by high expectations and personalised learning in an integrated, engaging environment. Families and the wider community enjoy a warm welcome in the school, and participate with the staff in building a strong learning community. We have an Aboriginal Education Officer to support our Koori students and their families and strong links with our Cook Islander community. The core values of the school are respect, responsibility, personal best and safety. These values are embedded into our school culture and are explicitly taught in all classrooms. At Bellambi Public School we have quality literacy and numeracy programs tailored to individual students through our collaborative approach to teaching and learning and deep knowledge of the learning continuums. A speech therapist is employed to support students and staff in the area of language development. We have an integrated technology focus, linked with higher-order thinking skills from Kindergarten to Year 6 led by two teacher mentors working alongside the teachers in the classrooms. Our library is exceedingly well-resourced, both in print and in technology. Our aim is to encourage students to read both for information and for pleasure. This is based on research showing that students who read for pleasure do better not only in school, but also for their whole lives. The school is fully equipped for 21st century learning in the area of technology, with a computer lab, a room for virtual conferencing, and computers and interactive white boards in each classroom. An iPad program is being implemented in every classroom. Bellambi Public School offers an extensive range of enrichment activities, including public speaking, performing and creative arts, fundamental movement skills, environmental education and an excellent sports program. Equity funding plays a pivotal role in the staffing and resourcing of the school to raise the learning outcomes for all students. This funding provides the school with extra teachers, valuable teaching resources and teacher professional development. Literacy, numeracy and student engagement are the school’s key priorities.
