Wollongong Public School
Wollongong Public School prides itself in its delivery of academic excellence and provision of a caring environment. Located close to the centre of the city, the school is within easy access of all the major cultural, sporting and political sites in Wollongong. While the majority of our students live locally, we have a number of students enrolled in OC classes for gifted and talented students who travel in from all over the Illawarra. We have a rich mixture of students from different cultures in the school, and take great pride in the level of acceptance and respect for different cultures shown by our students. Our students are actively involved in a range of extra-curricular activities including music, dance, public speaking and chess. (The school's chess team consistently performs well at state and national level.) With a fully equipped computer laboratory and access to interactive white boards, students are able to incorporate the latest technology into their learning. The school also participates in various sporting competitions with other local schools. There is a strong commitment by staff, students and parents in maintaining the proud history of the school, with a strong Parents and Citizens Committee and an active school heritage group.
