Glen Alice Public School
Glen Alice Public School is located in the Capertee Valley, in the central west of N.S.W. It is a small one-teacher school which has provided an educational service for the children of the Glen Alice district for over 125 years. There is close interaction between the school and the community and it often serves as a focal point for community activities. It is the aim of Glen Alice Public School to provide educational opportunities in a nurturing environment, which is conducive to each child actualising his or her potential. The children work on individual programs which are written to cater for ability levels and learning styles. The learning in the classroom is supported by a teacher's aide and assistance from district consultants for children with specific learning needs. A unique feature of our school is our committment to sustainable living. We have many vegetable gardens, an orchard, chooks and a worm farm. Children learn the science behind growing, cooking and eating food. The gardens are also a way of involving the local community. Extra curricular activities include sports days, canoeing at Dunns Swamp and horse riding. Ponies stay at the school for 2 weeks a term to allow children to learn how to care for horses as well as ride them.
