Marks Point Public School

A school aiming toward excellence, Marks Point Public School is located in the City of Lake Macquarie and lies within the Hunter/Central Coast educational area. Our community has a broad socio-economic, parent and educational base. Specific targets are student achievement, quality teaching and community engagement. Programs include Best Start, L3 (Language, Literacy, Learning), Count Me In Too, Reading Recovery, Powerful Learning Accountable Teaching, Peer Support, LOLA speech intervention and transition for all. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and iPads which provide a motivating and engaging environment for 21st Century learning. Our Connected Classroom additionally enhances educational opportunities for all students. Performing Arts and extra curriculum opportunities include Starstruck (Hunter Central Coast), guitar tuition, dance groups, choir, chess competitions, public speaking competitions, and access to gifted and talented programs. Environmental Education programs aim at developing students' understandings of sustainability, recycling, propagating, gardening and balancing our natural heritage alongside of renewable energy sources. Vigorous sporting opportunities ensure all students have opportunities to participate, engage and enjoy activities on a regular daily basis whilst talented students excel at chosen sports. Both league and softball teams have attained achievements on a consistently high basis. Leadership is promoted and our Student Parliament ensures an active voice for children, ownership of programs, financial support for disadvantaged countries and student democracy. Active partnerships with preschools and the Galgabba Learning Community of schools ensures our whole community is workiong together to provide a quality education for our students. The school Parents & Community group provides many networks for involvement and participation and openly welcomes new members. Our Aboriginal Action Team fosters understanding and respect for our indigenous community members and provides opportunities for all students to engage in learning about the Awabakal culture. Our network aim is to work together, to provide a quality education in a caring, innovative environment.
