Cardiff South Public School
Cardiff South Public School is a welcoming, community school that seeks to provide quality learning experiences in a caring and supportive environment. We are located in a quiet corner of Cardiff South with two grassed playing fields, tall trees and well-maintained gardens. At the commencement of 2016 school year, we have formed 11 mainstream classes K-6 and 2 Preschool classes which operate on a rotational basis 5 days per fortnight. The school's total P-6 enrolment for 2015 is 298. Close co-operation between parents and teachers is a key philosophy that underpins Cardiff South because we understand that home and school share a common purpose - the academic progress and personal development of each individual child. Our school promotes 5 core values - Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity and Resilience. These values are explicitly taught and embedded in all that we do as a school. Cardiff South Public School offers a broad curriculum and a diverse range of extra-curricular activities which students are encouraged to engage with. These include public speaking and debating, Premier's Reading Challenge, PSSA Sport, pre-school buddy program, Kindergarten Orientation, Transition to High School, Starstruck, school choir, Enviro-crew and ukulele groups. Our community have given strong endorsement to our three year plan; our focus on improvement in aspects of literacy and numeracy; the development of fundamental movement skills to support lifelong involvement in sport; and building our talents and expertise in the creative and performing arts. We aim to develop independent learners and thinkers and actively promote student leadership through an SRC, other student leadership programs and our involvement in the Premier's Sport Leadership Program. We are currently implementing the Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN) and Focus on Reading (FOR) programs. Our Learning support programs include Multi-Lit, Mini-Lit and speech interventions. Unique features of our school include our expansive grassed playing fields, beautiful gardens, large sandpit and our outdoor environment learning space. This space includes vegetable gardens, water saving devices, compost bins and a worm farm. Our new school hall has state of the art audio, lighting and sports floor and therefore provides an amazing venue for performance, gymnastics and indoor sport. The computer lab has 30 computers and our students are taught the skills they need in order to be both safe and proficient users of technology. In 2016, we will be expanding the technology that is available for use in the classroom to include additional laptops, tablets and interactive smart panels. Our PC run canteen meets the guidelines of the 'Fresher Tastes' policy and we promote healthy eating. We have a proactive Learning Support Team which helps to identify and support the needs of all students. Our core goal is always to improve the educational and social outcomes for each and every one of our students and to equip them with the skills that they will need for living and working in the 21st century.
Cooler Classrooms Program
The NSW Government is committed to providing students with healthy and comfortable learning environments. That’s why we’ve invested a record $500 million to provide a sustainable air conditioning program for NSW schools.
To ensure the NSW Government responds to the needs of students in the hottest parts of the State, we will provide air conditioning in classrooms and libraries at schools that experience a mean maximum January temperature of 30°C and above.
Schools that sit below 30°C will be able to apply for funding to receive air conditioning in their classrooms and libraries, allowing more schools to benefit from air conditioning than ever before.
This school is eligible to apply for funding through the Cooler Classrooms Program. Applications for the second round of funding are now closed.
