Cardiff South Public School

Cardiff South Public School is a welcoming, community school that seeks to provide quality learning experiences in a caring and supportive environment. We are located in a quiet corner of Cardiff South with two grassed playing fields, tall trees and well-maintained gardens. At the commencement of the 2019 school year, we have formed 12 mainstream classes K-6 and 2 Preschool classes which operate on a rotational basis 5 days per fortnight. The school's total P-6 enrolment for 2019 is 326. Close co-operation between parents and teachers is a key philosophy that underpins Cardiff South because we understand that home and school share a common purpose - the academic progress and personal development of each individual child. Our school promotes 5 core values – Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity and Resilience. These values are explicitly taught and embedded in all that we do as a school. Cardiff South Public School offers a broad curriculum and a diverse range of extra-curricular activities which students are encouraged to engage with. These include public speaking and debating, Premier's Reading Challenge, PSSA Sport, pre-school buddy program, Kindergarten Orientation, Transition to High School, Starstruck, school choir, Enviro-crew and Drama groups. Our community have given strong endorsement to our three year school plan; our focus on high quality teaching and learning, holistic approach to wellbeing and highly effective classroom practice in writing. We aim to develop independent learners and thinkers and actively promote student leadership through an SRC, other student leadership programs and our involvement in the Premier's Sport Leadership Program. We are currently implementing the pedagogy of Explicit Instruction and we have a strong wellbeing focus P-6. Our Learning support programs include Multi-Lit, Mini-Lit and speech interventions. Unique features of our school include our expansive grassed playing fields, beautiful gardens, large sandpit and our outdoor environment learning space. This space includes vegetable gardens, water saving devices, compost bins and a worm farm. Our school hall has state of the art audio, lighting and sports floor and therefore provides an amazing venue for performance, gymnastics and indoor sport. The computer lab has 30 computers and our students are taught the skills they need in order to be both safe and proficient users of technology. In addition to this, we will have additional sets of laptops, ipads and interactive smart panels. Our P&C run canteen meets the guidelines of the 'NSW Helthy School Canteen Strategy' policy and we promote healthy eating. We have a proactive Learning Support Team which helps to identify and support the needs of all students. Our core goal is always to improve the educational and social outcomes for each and every one of our students and to equip them with the skills that they will need for living and working in the 21st century.
