Lake Illawarra South Public School enjoys an enviable location adjacent to both lake and sea. The school is justifiably proud of its strong community ties and the warm working relationship that exists between the school and the community it serves. High quality, literacy and numeracy programs form the heart and soul of the school. These programs are underpinned by an integrated curriculum that spans all subject areas. Technology is integral to teaching and learning within the school and all classes make use of interactive smartboards to support teaching and learning activities.Opportunities for sporting activities abound and are a vital part of the school's culture. The school has a culture of high expectations and ongoing self evaluation, reflection and modification in an effort to provide our students with the best possible teaching and learning experiences. We believe it is our role to help each and every child achieve his or her personal best. New public preschool: New public preschool at Lake Illawarra South Public School

The NSW Government's 2023-24 Budget is delivering a record $8.8 billion for new and upgraded schools. This targeted investment in growing communities will ensure working families get access to a world class public education. As part of the plan to rebuild essential services, the NSW Government has invested $769 million to deliver 100 new public preschools, including building a new preschool at every new government primary school in NSW, to boost access to preschool across the state. The location of the public preschools have been selected based on careful evaluation and selection criteria with considerations to educational need and demand, how children grow and learn, infrastructure feasibility, and insights gained through consultation. Early planning is underway to consider the needs of the local area now and into the future to ensure the right preschool is designed for the community. Consultants have been engaged and site due diligence activities are underway. LED Upgrade

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
