Oak Flats Public School

Oak Flats Public School highlights quality relationships, outstanding teaching and learning and high expectations from Preschool to Year 6. Our school banner statement, 'focusing on children reaching for excellence in a caring learning environment' is the cornerstone upon which everything we do is built, with students encouraged to continually raise the bar in all areas. We have experienced staff committed to developing highly engaged lifelong learners. The areas of focus in our School Plan (2012-2014) are achieving excellence in literacy and numeracy, engaging all students in their learning, incorporating the National Curriculum into our classroom programming, leadership at all levels and Aboriginal Education. The school’s Codes of Excellence and Conduct focus on participation, reaching for goals, respecting others, achieving personal bests and celebrating success. The school offers quality literacy, numeracy and technology programs from Preschool to Year 6. Our literacy and numeracy programs are supported by a Reading Recovery teacher as well as other specialist staff. Exemplary student leadership programs and effective discipline programs are a key feature of the school. A Community Language Program operates within the school allowing students the opportunity to learn and develop an understanding of the German language and culture. A variety of extra-curricular programs are offered and provide the students with experiences in public speaking, choir, drumming group, recorder ensemble, the Premier’s Reading and Spelling Challenges and dance. An outstanding Kindergarten Orientation Program provides effective transition to school for the youngest members of our school community. Students are assessed by the Kindergarten teachers using the Best Start Program which provides valuable information for teaching and learning programs. The school’s preschool is recognised as Exceeding National Standards for innovative practices and presently services some 40 families. The Early Learning Framework is utilised within the preschool program with great success. A high level of community involvement has created a strong partnership between families, staff and the wider community which has resulted in a positive and supportive environment for children. P&C meetings are held regularly and provide parents with the opportunity to become involved in the school. We are well resourced and provide students access to the latest technologies. A modern computer lab, interactive whiteboards and innovative software ensure the best start for every child. The school has highly qualified, dedicated teachers and staff. Ongoing professional learning for all teachers to ensure students are engaged in quality, individualised learning programs is a key component of the success of the school. We are a proud member of the Oak Flats Learning Community, a group of schools committed to working together to provide the best possible education for all students.
